Goshin Ryu Karate Camp

Traditionally camps are held twice a year in the scenic Blue Mountains, at Blackheath. Blackheath is approximately 15km west of Katoomba on the Great Western Highway west of Sydney.

Who is Invited?

The camp is suitable and open to all grades and we encourage middle to lower grades to attend. A number of alternative accommodation options are available. Blackheath has a variety of small shops as well as a number of places to eat. There is a garage, post office, various parks, free swimming pool and a police station.

What is Involved?

Training is held over two days, Saturday & Sunday - approximately 6 training sessions. This includes any special guest instructors.
Shared accommodation in cabins/houses for Friday & Saturday nights is provided. All accommodation has bathrooms, kitchen facilities, heaters & TV. Food is included in the total cost of the camp and is available on Saturday morning after the 1st training session.

FANTASTIC BLACK BELT DEMONSTRATIONS ARE HELD ON THE SATURDAY EVENING

Who Do I Train With?

There will be Black Belt teachers from around Sydney, NSW and interstate as well as regular guest instructors from other styles and Martial Arts types. We encourage you to train with others that you don't normally train with. We will spend at least one full session in a restricted group, working on kata(s) for your next grading.

Shared Accommodation

Every cabin/house will be assigned a senior grade to oversee and to organise food, beds etc. In general cabins will be organised at a club level so friends will be able to stay together. Rooms are not mixed. Food preparation & cleanliness of the cabins are a shared responsibility. If you are sending children of 18 yrs and younger, you will be required to have pre-arranged adequate supervision with a senior member of your local club prior to your child arriving at the camp.

Camp Etiquette

  • No smoking or drinking in the cabins.
  • No children under 18 yrs are to leave the cabins alone unless accompanied by an adult, or if an adult has been advised of your movements.
  • Washing up & cleaning is the responsibility of each cabin. Cabin leaders will supervise and distribute tasks as required.
  • Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Respect those who are trying to sleep especially those who are grading.
  • All seniors should be aware of cabin curfew.

Where to Go

Blackheath is approximately 15km west of Katoomba on the Great Western Highway. Turn right at the traffic lights, outside the Ivanhoe Hotel, into Govetts Leap Rd. Follow the road down the hill, past a slight bend to the left, and turn left into Lakeview Street. The cabins are at the bottom of the dead end road on the right hand side. As you drive into the bottom driveway, look for Cabin number 4 on the right hand side. You will be assigned to your cabin once there. Friday evening is your own free time.

If going directly to the community centre hall where training is conducted, it is on the corner of the next street west from the traffic lights along the Great Western Highway, opposite Blackheath Train Station.

When to Arrive

Most people arrive on Friday evening, as the cabins are available. Try organising car-pooling with members of your local club. If arriving Saturday morning please be punctual, as the first training session commences at 8.15am.
